日本无码-National Archives and Heritage Science Fellowship

The 日本无码-National Archives Heritage Science Fellowship allows researchers and professionals to conduct hands-on scientific research supporting the conservation and preservation of cultural and historic artifacts.

is dedicated to scientific research that supports the conservation, preservation, and continued public accessibility of the nation's archival collections -from paper and parchment to photographs, film, magnetic tapes, and digital files. Based just outside Washington, D.C. in College Park, Maryland, the lab brings together experts in analytical chemistry, physics, computational modelling, and materials science who collaborate widely with other units of the National Archives, regional universities, and government agency partners.

The selected Fellow will join this team for a research placement addressing current priorities such as managing the effects of temperature, humidity, and light on collections; testing new conservation treatment methods and tools; and polymer characterization and aging. The Fellow will also be encouraged to present their progress, collaborate on publications, and build peer networks within the wider heritage science community. Strong applicants will be emerging or established experts in fields relevant to heritage preservation, with project proposals that align with the lab's ongoing work and contribute to international collaboration in the field.

Fellowship Inclusions

This fellowship runs for a minimum of 5 months and a maximum of 12 months, beginning September 2027.

  • J-1 visa sponsorship and J-1 visa compliant health benefits
  • Round-trip international travel to the United States
  • Stipend to cover living expenses, settling-in costs, and professional development allowances
  • Dependent allowance, if applicable (though dependents' own health insurance and travel costs are the participant's responsibility)
  • Lab access: dedicated office and bench space, common wet lab supplies, PPE, a desktop computer, and use of analytical instruments including XRF, FT-IR, and GC/MS, plus temperature/humidity-controlled ovens and a microfadometer

  • America 250 programming: as part of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the Fellow will have access to related commemorative programming at the National Archives
